It’s that time of year when the temperatures decrease and the layers multiply. And as we begin to bunker down and cozy in for the winter months, we’re all drawn to bulky blankets and cozy socks.
But neither will do much good in the bathroom.
When we are in need of a quick warm-up courtesy of our bathrooms, many of us flock to the shower, taking a little longer than usual, savoring every second beneath the warm water. But dermatologists tell us to shorten our showers, use cooler water, and scrub less, especially during the dryer winter months.
Of course, we’re not trying to deter you from finding a cozy respite in your bathroom. You can still enjoy an indulgent bathroom retreat with an in-home steam shower. We wholeheartedly recommend installing a steam shower in your master bathroom to make it your cozy haven all winter long.
It may sound extravagant, but, in the long run, installing a steam shower is actually a great alternative to filling entire bathtubs each night for a soothing soak. Plus, standard residential steam showers work well in most master bathrooms. Keep in mind, a steam shower does best in rooms with ceilings no higher than 8 feet.
No matter what kind of shower you have, it’s a wintertime sanctuary…that is, until you have to exit. There’s nothing quite like having to tip-toe on ice-cold tiles after a steamy shower. You can layer up in all the blankets and cozy socks, but what to do when you hop out of the shower dripping wet?
A classic rug is a great place to start. But go beyond the standard bath rug placed in front of your shower. Look for a matching runner-length rug to place in front of your double sinks to keep your toes toasty while at the sink.
Aside from making your bathroom physically warmer, it should look equally as warm, too. We believe that bathrooms should have a perfect balance of refreshing and soothing. Crisp white walls and sleek tiles that are common in most bathrooms today look incredibly clean and inviting in the warmer months. But in the wintertime, it can leave the space feeling stark, unwelcoming, and colder than ever.
A great way to create a cozy vibe is with color. A simple, DIY solution is with a fresh coat of paint. Warm up your walls with shades like rich reds, burnt oranges, or deep browns. An equally DIY-friendly, but more on-trend alternative is with one of our copper sinks. Our copper sinks, like the Seville Copper Drop-In Sink, create the look of year-round warmth, even when the temperatures are below freezing.
