Designing with Natural Elements
Big news in the kitchen sink world! Just this month, Sinkology launched its Journey Collection of granite sinks. Yes, granite! This collection includes a single and double-bowl option in several granite finishes. The matte surfaces have metallic flecks throughout, which gives them an understated elegance. But don’t let that elegance fool you…these sinks are made to work, too. They harness the durability of granite in an easy-to-clean, stylish format. So basically, you get the stylish look of a custom stone sink without the custom price tag. Win-win!
To celebrate this new launch, I thought it might be cool to round up some of my favorite ways to incorporate natural elements in your home. A granite sink is obviously one great way to do this…and Sinkology makes it easy with its affordable price point and variety of options. There’s something for every kitchen! But what are some other ways to bring the beauty of nature into your home? Take a look below at some “au naturale” things that are on my wish list!
A Stone’s Throw to Style
I love the natural look of stone. Whether it’s marble, granite or another type of stone, I think the variations in color and texture make for instant visual interest in a room. This French Kitchen Marble Fruit Bowl from Crate and Barrel is the perfect study in natural simplicity. The cool marble would complement any type of cabinetry or style. While this piece would look great in the kitchen holding fruit, I’m planning to use it in my guest bathroom to hold fun soaps and toiletries!
The Warmth of Wood
Give me allllll the aged, chunky wood please! The variations in different types of wood grain are so stunningly beautiful, which is a huge reason why natural wood is having a big style moment right now. It’s everywhere and with good reason — a pop of natural wood can be an easy way to add texture and warmth to a room. Plus, it’s easy to maintain…usually just by dusting with a dry cloth. Restoration Hardware just launched its new Aspen collection and I’m in love with everything, especially this console table. It’s such a cool mix of rustic wood with modern, minimalist lines. This piece is definitely on the pricier end, but man, what a way to make a statement. Definitely asking begging Santa for this one come December!
Green Up Your Space
I don’t know about you, but I think a touch of green is an instant pick-me-up! Whether it’s a deep forest green or a sunny and bright spring green, there’s something about that hue that is fresh and invigorating…probably because it reminds me of being outside! I’m a sucker for nature-inspired art and some of my favorite finds are on Etsy! I routinely search “nature printables” just to see what’s new. Print-your-own artwork is great because it’s affordable and you can print it in any size you’d like to fit your space, whether it’s a small shelf or a giant wall! I love this trio of forest photos by Miramar Art and this cute little succulent watercolor by The Pattern Journal.
Real plants are also a great way to bring nature indoors (earth-shattering observation, I know). One of my favorite things about decorating with plants is picking out planters. This antiqued, galvanized option from World Market is perfect for larger plants — it’s nearly 18″ in diameter! And if you’re looking for a refined and fun option, how about this terra cotta bust planter by Ballard Designs? I have about 8 shelves I’d love to add this little lady to…how can you say no to fern hair?
